Wedding Planner - Yes or No?
Is hiring a wedding planner right for you?
Hiring a wedding coordinator is a smart alternative
to trying to do it all. A wedding consultant can:
Help you decide on wedding ceremony and reception sites.
Help you select and oversee all the wedding suppliers
and vendors you will need (ie caterer, musicians,
photographer, etc.)
Coordinate communication between and among
wedding vendors, suppliers and wedding sites.
Serve as a referee, friend, budget hawk, etiquette
expert, personal shopper, detail manager and organizer.
Coordinate your wedding rehearsal with the officiant.
Supervise all the last-minute details of your
wedding day.
And lots, lots more!
Questions
to ask a wedding planner:

Will the wedding consultant commit to your budget and
not push you in the direction of things you simply
can't afford?
Will the wedding consultant devise a master plan mapping
out all the little details, from announcements to
zebra-striped decor? (This will clue you in to
organizational prowess and the willingness of the
wedding coordinator to keep you
in the loop on every matter imaginable).
Can the wedding consultant name the best and most
original wedding locations in your area that would be
suitable to your wedding size, style and budget?
Does the wedding consultant have any questions for you?
They should! In order to determine your wishes,
needs, level of maintenance, budget, scope of
imagination, etc., your wedding coordinator should
have as many questions for you as you do for them.
Is the wedding consultant familiar with the best
wedding vendors
in your area? Can he/she explain their strong
points to you briefly? Ask yourself, "Does the
wedding consultant seem both knowledgeable and passionate?".
Can the wedding consultant score you some discounts with
any wedding vendors? Since wedding consultants bring volume to
wedding vendors, they will often reciprocate in some way.
Will the wedding consultant read over the wedding vendor
contract for you? Does the wedding consultant know what the
common traps are to look out for?
Can the wedding consultant create a wedding timeline that tells
everyone involved in the wedding what to do and when to do it? Ask
how he/she plans to do to make sure everyone in the
wedding party sticks
to said schedule.
Will the wedding consultant handle the wedding invitations, from
wording and ordering to the addressing and mailing?
Can the wedding consultant counsel you on wedding etiquette
matters and alert you to hot trends on the wedding
horizon?
Will the wedding consultant coordinate delivery, arrival
and set up times with all involved on your wedding
day?
Will the wedding consultant be willing to oversee the
entire day of your wedding by supervising vendors,
troubleshooting emergencies and soothing nerves?
Can he/she share any wedding anecdotes that required him/her
to perform the above?
Will the wedding consultant be willing to step in as
your advocate, conveying your visions and desires to
wedding vendors when you don't feel up to the task?
Will the wedding consultant help plan and book your
honeymoon?
Whatever you do, DON'T hire a wedding planner who doesn't
want to listen to you, tries to convince you of what's best
for you, harshly critiques your ideas, has no references and
won't sign a written agreement!
